At a Glance: Students assemble electronic components onto a circuit board and solder them into place, creating a working circuit with blinking lights (with the likeness of a robot).

Concepts:  Students learn about basic electronic components and how they function in a working circuit. Also, students learn to solder.

Details: In the Blinky activity, students identify and position transistors, capacitors, LEDs, and resistors on a circuit board and solder them in place. This produces a circuit board with alternately flashing lights superimposed on a robot’s body. Students learn the function of electronic components, hone their soldering ability, and learn how to care for and safely use soldering irons.
